SENIOR
CAPSTONE
For my senior capstone project, my peers and I were given the opportunity to research a topic that holds deep significance for us. We gathered primary and secondary sources, including data, charts, and articles, to help us develop two different prototypes that summarized our most important findings.

GOALS
The primary design goal of this project was to translate complex social and behavioral data, into compelling informational design prototypes that resonate with a younger demographic to raise awareness about the dangers of binge drinking. Instead of presenting the facts themselves, I developed two distinct pieces of print media using strong typography, expressive layouts, and visual storytelling.
CHALLENGES
Designing for this specific demographic raised unique challenges. The importance of this research is to educate young women about the realities of binge drinking without sounding critical or preachy. It was vital to create balance in my designs being honest and direct, yet understanding and educational. Additionally, because the project focused primarily on print media, I relied on strategic font selection, color schemes, and intentional layouts to draw viewers in and engage them with the prototypes.
NARRATIVE
Binge drinking among women ages 18-25 is a growing issue, heavily capitalized on by alcohol companies using unique marketing tactics to target specific demographics. Most health campaigns that attempt to highlight these dangers fail due to boring visuals and wordy statistics. I aimed to change that dynamic by pairing difficult data with expressive design elements to appeal to this age group.
RESULTS
Extensive research and various design interactions and revisions resulted in two distinct prototypes that start a conversation. They change how data is perceived and bridge the gap between academic research and impactful graphic design.
